Fundraising

The cost of the eradication program is funded by grants, where available, and by private donations. Through May of 2008, approximately $600,000 has been raised through private donations, a NY State grant and grants from private foundations. An additional $500,000 will be required to complete the project. We seek to raise $300,000 in the summer and fall of 2008. Taxes will not be instituted or increased to finance this effort.

We call upon all members of the Skaneateles Lake community – residents, boaters, fisherman, property owners associations and local businesses – to come to its rescue. And we thank the several hundred individuals who have contributed thus far. Your contributions are literally saving the lake as we know it.

Volunteering

Our area is rich with caring individuals ready to lend a hand toward any important goal. We expect many would volunteer their time to work on dive crews. However, because of the demanding and dangerous nature of this work, all labor will be executed by carefully selected, trained, and insured divers, all earning a wage commensurate with the demands of the work.

Anyone wishing to volunteer time to this effort is encouraged to collect donations from friends and neighbors to fund the cost of equipment and labor. This is our greatest need.
